Rebuilding Together window replacement is part of home repair assistance that local affiliates provide at no cost to qualifying homeowners. It is funded through donations, programs and corporate partnerships—not a loan—so the homeowner has nothing to repay, and Rebuilding Together Houston says its work carries no lien and staff and contractors will not ask homeowners for money. Published projects show windows repaired or replaced alongside other safety work; the local affiliate assesses each home to set its scope.
The published stories show how window work can be part of a larger project. In Miami’s Village West Coconut Grove neighborhood, 63-year-old Thaddeus received a new roof, hurricane impact windows, exterior painting and light landscaping through Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade and the Wells Fargo Builds program. The affiliate’s story about Thaddeus includes his words: “Home means everything. It means a roof over one’s head.”
In northeast Las Vegas, 72-year-old Pauline’s home received replacement windows and doors, concrete accessibility ramps, grab bars, trip-and-fall protections, improved lighting and flooring, yard work and exterior painting. The work was completed by Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada, with volunteers and staff involved. Read Pauline’s published case, dated March 16, 2026, for the project details.
In Philadelphia, Ms. Mendez—who had lived in her home for 22 years with her daughter and four grandchildren—received new flooring, handrails, ceiling restorations and window restorations. Rebuilding Together Philadelphia worked with Beacon Building Products on the no-cost repairs. The Philadelphia case story describes the work in the family’s home.
Rebuilding Together’s national FAQ lists common repairs including bathroom modifications such as grab bars, roof repairs, wheelchair ramps, HVAC repairs, window and door replacement, mold remediation, painting, yard maintenance and fire-safety prevention. An affiliate’s housing inspector assesses the home and sets the scope, so a project may focus on a single repair or combine several items, as the published cases show.
The funding model explains the no-repayment arrangement: donations, national programs and corporate partnerships support the work. For example, the Safe at Home program includes services such as durable flooring, ramps, grab bars, lighting, ventilation, water-leak repairs and fire-safety upgrades. Named partners have supported particular builds or programs, including Beacon Building Products, Lowe’s, Lockheed Martin, Unum Group and Wells Fargo Builds. These examples describe program funding and specific projects; the local affiliate determines which repairs it can provide.
The national FAQ says eligibility is typically set at household income at or below 80% of the local Area Median Income (AMI). Each affiliate and program sets its own requirements and income figure. For example, Rebuilding Together Houston sets its Community Revitalization track at 50% or lower of AMI and its Veterans track at 80% or lower. Those figures apply to the specified Houston tracks, not to every affiliate or program.
For the Houston programs, the applicant must meet these homeownership conditions:
The applicant also needs to meet the income threshold for the specific track. Requirements and service areas vary by affiliate, so the local organization’s program page is the source for its application rules. Rebuilding Together reports a network of more than 100 affiliates; its national office does not carry out home repairs. Demand can exceed the capacity funded for local projects, so screening is not an assurance of acceptance or a promised completion date.
The process begins with the affiliate serving the homeowner’s address. The national affiliate map and directory helps identify that organization; the homeowner then contacts that affiliate directly. The national FAQ explains that affiliates provide the direct services.
Screening has two parts: the affiliate first checks the homeowner’s qualifications, then a housing inspector visits to assess the home and define the work scope. Licensed contractors handle specialized trades such as roofing, electrical and plumbing work. After repairs, a Rebuilding Together housing inspector provides a completion report for the homeowner to review and sign. Volunteer teams complete exterior work, typically in spring and autumn. The affiliate can explain how these stages apply to its local program and what timing it can offer; the published process does not establish a universal completion date.
Having the core information ready can help make screening more orderly. Gather proof of ownership and occupancy, your property-tax status or official payment agreement, and household income from every source for everyone living in the home. Include dated photographs of the damage, preferably showing when it first appeared, and identify household members who are older adults, disabled or children. Rebuilding Together says many of the neighbors it serves are veterans, people with disabilities, older adults or families with children; the affiliate can tell you whether those details matter for its particular track.
The practical next step is the Rebuilding Together affiliate map: identify the affiliate for your address and contact it directly to begin screening, with ownership proof, tax information, household income and dated damage photographs ready. If the damage is making the home unsafe, the 211 online housing resource finder can be used in parallel to look for local assistance. Rebuilding Together’s local assessment determines whether window work fits the home’s repair scope and the funding available for that program.
